Pilgrim's shelter
2012 Galicia, EspaƱa

The trail comes movement and regenerates, bringing inertia and change. Erodes ground through a strip of pilgrims who come and go throughout its entire length to time they discover places, places, people and emotions. The project explores the possibility to create a raft in a flow line of movement. In line where traffic is constant in both directions, like a row of ants, introduce abnormality that is part of it but with a particular atmosphere, different from the weight to the road weary an atmosphere conducive for relaxation, contemplation of moisture and the nature and amount of tranquility.

An anomaly is identified with the pilgrim who travels tirelessly and with which contemplates stops and rests, without creating tensions between them. The project that is studying the possibility of half-buried in a garden area as only tool of separation and hierarchy, with subtle and kind to the environment field introduces a layer differentiation, uses and ways of being clear and concise. Indifferent to the transit and defining for the rest stop avoiding collisions of use. The atmosphere enclosing the area is quiet half buried, contact the nature through every way and physically separated from the movement. In northern Spain, in the areas of Asturias and Galicia, where the project is located, is find common teitos: historic houses of stone, wood slats and straw as cover.

The proposed nest inspired recognizes traditional typology area in its materiality and atmosphere inside as well as in its formality. Implementation has been careful to ensure that materials are spaces home-nest local, biodegradable, made on site in dry, high quality and warmth. Wood is the primordial material and almost absolute nest structure, by overlapping parts anchored wood together with a specific curvature and forms a structure which is self-supporting while facade finishing or finishing stand; by shelter of a holistic system where everything works as one item and not as the layering, avoiding specialization, waste and energy costs production and maintenance. After the deconstruction, all elements can be reused, recycled or biodegrade, also by pilgrims any way that they like.

The meditation area is a secluded area, more private, within greater nest, which is a space in a perpetual state of semi-interperie, open your top to let in natural light. The atmosphere generated by the zones humid forests of northern Galicia penetrate into this space, like the rain can penetrate through the central hole made in the top. The nest is a retreat site, but not isolation, nature is always present in differen degrees. Nests with sink and shower areas are outside with a tight denser straw finish. The final distribution was made considering the notorious distinction of each program item.

The meditation area is a separate area, separated from the zone interaction, relationship and conversation among the pilgrims. The latter is defined as the entire area semi-buried garden. Place full of corners with different singularities for appropriate by pilgrims with native vegetation unscheduled.
